Buhari is a leader who incites violence, religious division – Yusuf Datti  | NN NEWS

Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari has been described as a leader with a history of inciting violence and divisive sentiments.

Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party said this when he featured on Channels Television Sunrise programme on Tuesday.

Baba-Ahmed noted that Buhari had incited his supporters to attack anyone who attempted to snatch ballot boxes.

He further accused Buhari of inciting religious sentiment by urging the electorate to vote in line with their religious leaning.

He said, “This has always been a tragedy for Nigeria.

“It is on record, I was the only APC (All Progressives Congress) candidate who never stepped foot in Buhari’s quarters while we contested.

“When the then-candidate Buhari called for, in Hausa; I’ll try to translate: ‘cast your votes, protect your votes, escort your votes and when they touch it, hit them’. The moment I heard that I withdrew from him.

“And this is a leader who in April 2000 when he was trying to protect himself from the report of the committee on PTF, ran to Sokoto and the first thing he did was to generate sentiment (ahead of 2023 election) that Muslims should not elect a Christian.

“Ever since I began to see those things, I kept a safe distance. I mean how can a leader say ‘if they touch your votes, attack?’ In a civilised society, that’s not how it is.”

“Again, in December 2018 when I lost to Atiku (Abubakar) in the (People Democratic Party) presidential primary, TV stations, including yours must have reported that Buhari was quoted as saying he has instructed the Nigerian Armed Forces to deal ruthlessly with ballot box snatchers.

“To order armed forces to deal ruthlessly has only one meaning,” he added.

Asked about Buhari’s cult-like support base, Baba-Ahmed argued that the supporters had deserted him. According to him, the supporters have realised they were being deceived all along.
