Gunmen suspected at the weekend shot the Auditor General of Bauchi State, Abdul Usman Aliyu before kidnapping his 25-year-old son, Zulkifiru Mohammed and friend Iliyasu Suileman, 50.

The Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday.

The spokesman of Bauchi police Command, DSP Ahmed Wakili, confirmed the incident, adding that the gunmen shot and injured Aliyu after he resisted them before making away with his son and friend.

Wakili said the incident happened at the weekend while Usman Aliyu was on his way to Kardam village to visit his family and friends in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.

According to him, there were about six people in the Auditor-General’s car consisting three men and three women when the gunmen reportedly trailed him, opened fire and severely wounding him in the process.

The PPRO added that Aliyu was shot at close range by the attackers after he resisted them while others in the car scampered for Safety.

A resident of Kardam reported the attack at the Tafawa Balewa police division.

” Thinking that he (Aliyu) was dead, the others in his car abandoned him and ran into the bush leaving him in a pool of blood before help came his way through other users of the road who evacuated and rushed him to General Hospital in Tafawa Balewa before he was transferred to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) where he is on admission at the Trauma Centre.

” Police personnel at the Tafawa Balewa Division went to the scene but the assailants had already gone away with the two victims, one of who is the biological son of the injured Auditor General,” he added.

Wakili said the police were tracking the abductors.

The daughter of the injured Auditor-General, who was in the car when the attack occurred, told reporters the kidnappers have made contact with the family.

She said they were demanding N30 million to release the two victims, adding negotiations were ongoing.
