Obi pledges 2M to upgrade Tungan Madaki primary healthcare centre

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, took to his social media handle X to share an update on his recent activities. On March 30, 2024, he revisited Tungan Madaki village in Abuja, fulfilling a promise he made during the 2024 World Sick Week.

As part of his nationwide tour, Obi had visited the Tungan Madaki Primary Healthcare Centre, where he pledged a donation of 2 million Naira towards the centre’s upgrade. This decision was influenced by his personal observation of the centre’s poor conditions during his visit.

Obi highlighted the urgent need for reforms in our healthcare infrastructure, which he believes is the backbone of societal progress. He expressed concern over the alarming state of primary healthcare centres across the country, with less than 10% functioning effectively. He pointed out the prevalent issues of decaying infrastructure, equipment shortages, and understaffing that afflict these facilities, with more than half of them in a state of disrepair nationwide.

The Tungan Madaki Primary Healthcare Centre is of particular importance as it serves 32 villages. Obi’s contribution emphasizes the pressing need for improvements in healthcare funding and resources, especially at the grassroots level.

Obi stressed that a healthy population is crucial for our nation’s development. He called for investments in a robust healthcare system that can meet the needs of all citizens. He concluded by urging everyone to join hands in building a new Nigeria, grounded in the principles of health, equity, and prosperity.
