A former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Prof. Jerry Gana, has declared that there is no government in Nigeria at present, Daily Independent reports.
Apparently worried by the overwhelming challenges facing the country, especially that of insecurity, Professor Gana said: “Because many people are not aware – at the federal level, we don’t even have a government.”
The former member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed the view when he was received back into the party in Niger State on Wednesday.
Prof. Gana is a founding member of the PDP but dumped the party for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in March 2018 to pursue his presidential ambition.
And it was a celebration of homecoming for him and his supporters while members of the party rejoiced over the return of one of their own.
He said he was filled with joy for returning to the party he left a few years back and expressed sadness at the state of things in Nigeria.
He concluded that “there is no government in Niger State and in Nigeria in general” and lamented that the country was nose-diving and needed “urgent rescue”.
The event took place at his country home in Bida Local Government Area.
He said: “Today is not a day for lecture, it is not a day for campaigns – we just want to rejoice that we are back together solidly and we are going to work together solidly; we are going to work together effectively, we are going to campaign powerfully.”
Meanwhile, leaders of the PDP across the three senatorial zones at the ‘re-union’ had earlier, in separate remarks, commended the former minister for returning to the fold and assured him that the party would work hard to wrest power from the APC at the state and national levels.
All the leaders and critical stakeholders present unanimously assured party faithful in Niger State that the PDP was coming back stronger and ready to regain power in the state and salvage it from the “deflated” state it is in currently.
