The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, says the agency is investigating the source of money used by aspirants to purchase party nomination forms ahead of the 2023 elections.

This is coming after Nigerians expreessed worries over the outrageous amount being paid by some presidential aspirants, more especially candidates from All Progressive Congress.

The APC is charging the whooping sum of N100 million for its expreession of interest and nomination forms. Some governors who picked the form are reportedly owing workers salaries and pensions for years.

However, Bawa while reacting over the issue said the anti-graft agency is working with INEC and other sister agencies to ascertain if the sources of the money being spent by these presidential aspirants is legitimate or not.

He said, “When it comes to the issue of monitoring election funds as well as candidates’ funds, that has to do with the work of INEC in this regard but, of course, we are working hand in gloves with INEC and other related agencies in that field to ensure that we follow the money, we know the source, whether it is legitimate or illegitimate because that is what concerns us.”
